Here are some quotes I take from my latest read, The Irresistible Revolution: Living as an ordinary radical, by Shane Claiborne. I don’t like everything he says, but I like a lot of it, and it definitely makes me want to re-evaluate many of the ways I think and act…
A bishop in Iraq speaks with Claiborne and says that the Middle Eastern church is concerned about the church in the US, saying “many Christians are for this war” and asking “What are the Christians saying?” Claiborne explained that they hope God could use war to liberate the Iraqi people. He shook his head and said he doesn’t believe that, because ‘blessed are the peacemakers’ …he says that he will be praying for the church in the US…to be the church.
“All around you, people will be tiptoeing through life, just to arrive at death safely. Do not tiptoe. Run, hop, skip, or dance, just don’t tiptoe.” –p. 225
“Violence is for those who have lost their imagination. Has your country lost its imagination?” –p. 279
“The person who loves their dream of community will destroy community [even if their intentions are ever so earnest], but the person who loves those around them will create community.” –p. 320 of Claiborne quoting Dietrich Bonhoeffer
